There’s something especially comforting about visiting a garden center once the growing season slows down. The pace is different. The focus shifts. And suddenly, plants aren’t just about what’s going in the ground — they’re about how our homes feel during the darker months of the year.
On this visit, we’re taking you inside Faddegons, one of our favorite local garden centers, for a holiday tour filled with botanical inspiration, beautiful decor, and plenty of ideas for gardeners who still want to surround themselves with green through winter.
One of the first things that caught our eye was a botanical Christmas tree — decorated not just with ornaments, but with living elements like air plants tucked right into the branches. Even when faux greenery is involved, mixing in something alive gives everything a more natural, layered feel.
That idea — mixing textures — shows up everywhere here. Felt ornaments, glass baubles with bronze caps, soft greenery, metal picks, pinecones, birds, and woodland details all working together. It’s very similar to how we think about garden design: nothing too perfect, nothing too themed, just enough contrast to feel interesting.
We used to switch up our tree theme every year, but over time we’ve found ourselves gravitating toward fewer, better-made ornaments that we actually want to use again and again. Heavy glass ornaments, subtle metallic finishes, and pieces that don’t scream “trend” tend to earn a permanent place in the collection.
If you’re slowly building a holiday decor collection, this is a great approach — add a few thoughtful pieces each year instead of replacing everything all at once.
Holiday shopping at a garden center often surprises people, but it shouldn’t. Beyond plants, we found:
These kinds of gifts are especially perfect for people who are hard to shop for — gardeners, nature lovers, hosts, and anyone who appreciates thoughtful details.
Of course, no visit is complete without wandering through the greenhouse. Even in winter, it’s full of lush foliage, houseplants of every size, and a reminder that growth doesn’t really stop — it just moves indoors.
From easy-care classics to more unusual collector plants, this is where inspiration really kicks in. It’s also a great place to think realistically about light, space, and how plants actually live in your home (not just how they look in the store).
Garden centers aren’t just spring destinations. In winter, they become places to slow down, gather ideas, and reconnect with why we garden in the first place — not just for flowers or harvests, but for how plants make our spaces feel.
If you haven’t visited your local garden center lately, this is your sign. Go wander. Look at the details. Let yourself be inspired — even if you don’t bring anything home.
